Woodgreen 003: The Girl In Pink
“That was uncalled for and you know it!” Pansy all but shrieked the last words out at Draco who seemed undaunted at her obvious fury. Both Weasley and Granger had already left and as soon as the other two were out of hearing range, Pansy swooped down on him like an angry hawk.
“You expected me to tolerate you flirting with that dirt-poor weasel? Honestly! Besides, I don’t think the relationship was working anyway.” Draco shrugged, trying to sound as nonchalant as possible lest he started screaming right back because she was honestly stretching his patience thin. “We’re better off th…”
Pansy stomped on his foot, using her stiletto heel to dig in as hard as she could through his leather. “You are not listening to me. I don’t care whether you wanted to break up or not. I even agree that we’re better off single in our last year before college but how. Dare. You! How dare you do that in front of other people! Especially in front of Weasley and Granger! I should’ve been the one who’d dump you for Weasley!”
Once again, Pansy’s voice went high-pitched and Draco really wanted to staple her mouth temporarily. He was developing a headache from all the arguing he did the whole day and it was just the first day of preparation before settling in. His mind was reeling with complaints about how life was cruel to him this year when he realized what Pansy had said, “WHAT? What do you mean dump me for Weasley? I am better than him!”
“Excuse me. He’s taller.”
“Too tall. Freckly. Insecure. Clumsy. Retarded. POOR.” Draco was ticking off each of his fingers to make his point.
“Do you see these hands?” She showed her hands then pressed both palms on each of Draco’s cheeks and squeezed his face. “They felt his chest and his bum and his arms — the perks of being poor, daily workout without going to the gym. I wonder what kind of manual labor he does…”
Draco slapped her hands away and started walking towards the administration building. “I am not having this conversation.”
Pansy dutifully followed. Girlfriend or not, she would demand that Draco drop her off to her house. Other than that, she wasn’t through making Draco feel miserable and insecure about the male physique. “I mean, you try to maintain a figure and all that. Gym, daily jogs, whatever. I like your body just fine but you don’t have the rough quality of a real man.” And for added effect, she sighed and swooned effortlessly.
“Just because I have better breeding,” and he emphasized the word with a deathly and haughty glare in her general direction, “does not mean I am less of a man..”
“Oh, let’s talk about breeding, shall we?” She sneered, ready to use her ace, “Aren’t your families related?”
“Distant relatives,” He spat. “Very distant.”
“Ah hah,” she smiled brightly. “Pedigree, check.” She would have continued harassing her ex-boyfriend-still-best-friend but they were interrupted by a pink-haired girl. It was the hair that had completely taken Pansy’s attention and she could not help but stare and then ask, “Where did you dye your hair?”
The girl looked around her to see if there was anyone else the question was directed to. Seeing no one, she turned to Pansy and smiled, “Oh, at LEMONed. It’s at the capital. I can take you there sometime if you like.”
“Japanese are so weird.” Draco frowned, still looking at the ghastly color. “Why are there so many Japanese people in this school, anyway?” He muttered to himself, which the girl obviously heard because she shot him a nasty look.
“I hate racists.” She lifted her chin up and tried to stare down at the taller boy.
Draco did the same and succeeded more, not just because he was taller but he had more experience in looking down at people. It was practically second nature to him.
Pansy cleared her throat. She wasn’t too fond of the staggeringly large Japanese population of her school but she was definitely not dumb enough to pick a fight against the majority, “Anyway, I’d like to go to this LEMONed place. I like pink.”
The girl promptly ignored Draco and returned her attention back to Pansy with a bright smile, “Alright then. I’ll see you once school starts. I’m…”
“Hey Sakura-chan!” Someone yelled and when Draco turned to see who it was, he glowered. It was that blond again.
“Hello, Naruto-kun!” She waved at him and while waiting for him to come over, she turned to Pansy once more and introduced herself, “I’m Sakura Haruno.”
Draco raised an eyebrow at the name. He had heard of the brainiac named Sakura Haruno who could compete with Granger in that department but had never met until now. And he certainly did not expect the pink hair, either. ‘There must be something about foul-bred brainiacs and hair issues,’ he thought.
“Pansy Parkinson and this is Draco Malfoy.” Never let it be said that Pansy could not be diplomatic and pleasant. She offered her hand which Sakura took. She noticed that the girl ignored Draco and Draco did not even bother to offer his hand to begin with.
By then, Naruto already arrived and gave Draco an unpleasant scowl before grinning at Sakura. “You’re in West with Granger and Sasuke’s in North with…her,” he pointed at Pansy.
Sakura frowned, “I was hoping all three of us would be together this year. Let me guess, you’re in South again.”
“Yeah well…”
Draco snorted.
Naruto glared.
Pansy had had enough of Draco’s attitude for the day. It seemed everything that came across him was offensive and it made him more irritating than his normal self. “Come, Draco, I still have to do some shopping anyway…”
“And who said I’m going with you?”
“You have no choice.” She waved goodbye at Sakura then proceeded to drag the protesting Draco into the administration building so they could finally be picked up by his chauffeur.
